Mama-Mia

Have you seen the West End Show Mama Mia! yet? Am I the only one who wonders what sort of person came up with the storyline of a woman being proud of not knowing which of three men could be the father of her daughter? Mary Whitehouse eat your heart out!
Shelley, Northampton

The story line is from a 1950's film starring the guy who played Bilko. 3 GI's who were stationed in Italy during the war believe they are all the father - consquently pay for there daughters up keep. hope that helps.

I did wonder if the press had gone a bit over the top with their coverage of the young woman who was knocked down and killed by a cyclist, wanting to believe that this might have been a one-off unfortunate incident - until yesterday. Another woman and I were nearly sent flying by around five youths from a local school speeding round a corner on their bikes - on the pavement.

Planning-regulations

When is someone going to sort out the building regulations? I challenged a neighbour’s right to build right up against my window but the planning department said as long as the building was 15ft away from their house, it didn’t matter how near it was to mine!! Barmy or what?

I know many people find the way Jade Goody publicised her terminal illness distasteful but I am full of admiration for the way she picked herself up after hearing the news she only had a few weeks left to live. What she did for her sons’ was brilliant. I am sure the adrenalin helped her to forget her illness for a few moments but who would deny her that? I will be watching her funeral with a box of tissue. Good on you Jade.

We own a caravan and because we only have a small garden, have to store it in one of those caravan storage places. It makes me angry that while the rest of us are struggling to make ends meet, these people charge over £200 a year for every van (on ours, over 200 vans) which makes nearly half a million pounds a year for the owners. How can they charge such a lot when other prices have to be justified. It’s not as if they provide any water or electricity to justify the cost.

My local college - which was in dire need of modernisation - was in the process of demolishing some of the old buildings as the funds for redevelopment had been agreed. Now the LSC have admitted that they “got their sums wrong” and the college, like many others in the country, has been left in an even worse position with half demolished buildings and expensive temporary portacabins to pay for. Can I state my sheer admiration for the support staff and lecturers, who are providing a first class service to the local population, under such difficult circumstances?

After the success of Susan Boyle, can I ask the obvious? Why not an X-Factor for the over 40’s? Who knows how many other “Susan Boyles” are out there.
